New Instagram features from 2022 that marketers love

Instagram was one of the fastest growing social media platforms during 2022, alongside TikTok. This article explores some of the new features which were introduced during 2022.

Instagram has released a Notes feature, a new way to share your thoughts and see what your friends are up to. Notes are short posts of up to 60 characters using just text and emojis. Replies to notes will arrive as DMs in your inbox.

Like you can Pin a post to your Facebook page, you can now Pin posts on your Instagram profile.

If you want to focus on a particular type of content, tips, events, news or more, be it a Reel, Video, or Photo, you can Pin a total of 3 types of posts to the top of your Instagram Profile Page.

Instagram Reels have now been expanded to 90 seconds.

You may have noticed that the layout for posts has changed from the standard ‘square’ to a more portrait size and videos showing up on the Instagram App feed have expanded to fill up the full screen. This is part of a trial, and we may see this change going forward for all.

Did you know Instagram has a shop feature which allows your brand to build a digital storefront on the Instagram app? 

In February the Reels shortcut will shift to the right, replacing the Shop button. However users will still be able to access all their favourite shops through Discover or other channels on Instagram.

Instagram is looking to make the shopping experience even more interactive, so they are now allowing businesses with an Instagram shop to host live shopping events.

It’s great news for businesses who want to use live experiences to showcase new products or services, show customers how to use products, or even collaborate with other businesses.

You can also tag featured products, making it easy for customers to find specific items.

Instagram is now prompting users to ‘Create Your 2022 Recap Reel’ in-stream, which, when activated, will take you through the process of adding posts and videos that you’ve uploaded throughout the year into a dedicated Reels template.
