#VolunteersWeek at Calvin

Team Calvin
07 Jun 2022

It’s #volunteersweek and here at Calvin we all volunteer for a cause or charity close to our heart. Our founder Diana Stephenson regularly gives her time as a trustee for not one but two special charities.

Schools for Kenya is a registered charity close to the Stephenson’s hearts. The charity raises funding for the construction and ongoing infrastructure support of primary and secondary schools for children in Kenya and who may not have access to education. The family has visited the projects in Kenya many times and regularly kept in touch with the teams on the ground during the pandemic.

“Like many charities our fundraising efforts have been seriously curtailed during the pandemic, nor have we been able to travel out to Kenya to visit our schools. We have, however, kept in touch with our contacts in Kenya and the teams at our two schools and are delighted that the children are all back and receiving an excellent education. We have been able to progress with the borehole at our secondary school in Lenkisem, although the start of this project was, understandably, delayed but there’s lots of exciting projects to come.”

Dedicated to supporting and enhancing the lives of seniors in all our communities, Home Instead Charities’ vision is to help local community groups and organisations to bring joy and happiness into the lives of our elderly communities across the UK.

“Getting older brings many challenges but also many opportunities. We help to fund activities including day trips to the seaside and stepping out at a vintage tea dance to gardening and golf lessons. It’s never too late to learn something new, or, revisit a favourite former pastime or hobby. Our charity exists to fund the little things that can make a big difference to older people’s lives.”

Both charities benefit from Diana’s vast experience in not only organising successful fundraising events but also promoting them to secure further support and funding for these incredibly worthwhile causes.
